Once upon a time there were six girls and they were all good friends and loved each other very much. But then four of the girls went to New York City without the other two. And the two who were at home were very sad.
While their friends were gone, the other two girls were writing papers. And two amazing (interesting, attractive, godly) men showed up (one at each of their doors). And they all realized they wanted to go to Key West.
So they ran away and eloped. And the two dudes were really rich, but they didn't want to live extravagant lifestyles. So each couple bought a little old-fashioned bungalow house (within easy walking distance of each other but each on plenty of land) on the central California coast. And they spent their days talking and walking in the countryside and traveling. And they all wrote poetry and short stories.
And the girls who went to New York were stuck working on Capitol Hill for the rest of their lives.
The End.

And they all sent packages of chocolate to the girls in DC, but they forgot about all the evil roads and traffic and gradually only laughed over the idea that once they wanted an academic career because now they spent their time writing the sort of thing that academics write criticism about.
Also, they were all actively involved in a local church body and spent large portions of their lives serving those in their community physically and spiritually and their sanctification was not painful or slow.
I can't wait for Tito to read *this* blog post next time he decides to peruse the blogosphere :-p
...but you’re not bitter.
Same story, alternative version:
Once upon a time there were six girls and they were all good friends and loved each other very much. But the time came when two of the girls decided that that didn’t like reality and much preferred the ivory tower and relative poverty of academia for working-class jobs with which the other four were largely content. But since the two girls were very intelligent, the universities of their choice wanted them to come so badly they paid part of their educational costs. And one of those girls moved TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY to write papers ON THE BEACH and go on wonderful drives ON PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY.
One weekend, the remaining four girls went to New York City and had a lovely weekend while the other two worked diligently on their papers, demonstrating the intellectual prowess they had long possessed, which had been recognized by each of the universities they were attending, which is how they’d ended up at grad school in the first place.
One year later, the two girls who had done graduate studies found themselves far more marketable with their fancy Master’s degrees and would find themselves in coffee houses as they pleased espousing their wisdom to all who would hear. And their brilliance attracted a good deal of suitors, from whom they could have their choice, and they went on to teach at small schools were they enjoyed fostering the love of learning among their students.
Meanwhile, of the four girls who had gone to NYC, two were married, one was teaching abroad and enjoying the life (rarity as it is) of a cultured American, and only ONE was stuck working on Capitol Hill for the rest of her life.
THAT’S how the story goes :-P
Wow, you are both SOOOO wrong. Ash - only one of those 4 works, has ever worked, or likely will ever work, on Capitol Hill. And Lee - if you think that graduate degrees are what men are looking for in women, you are very sorely mistaken. We couldn't care less (as opposed to the more familiar, but idiotically incorrect cliche, "could care less") about such things.
LOL...Funny story, though a little sad. I think I might feel bad for you if you hadn't left me behind when you all went to Key West. :-P
Actually, I think Christy is planning on moving back to Phoenix with me (her amazing, interesting, attractive, godly man) after law school :-D
;)
oh! and those men that showed up at the door - they were HUMBLE too
*wink*
